A History of Majoun
The World’s First Edible
Majoun is a traditional cannabis-infused confection with a rich and fascinating history that originated in ancient Persia (modern day Iran). The first known hashish-infused confection, majoun is the original edible.
From Persia, majoun made its way westward across the Islamic world and is known to have been consumed across the Middle East, South Asia, and North Africa. As majoun entered new regions, variations of its recipe emerged based on local flavour preferences and ingredients. It was normally kneaded into a paste-form, hence the name “majoun”, Arabic for kneaded (adj.) and paste (n.). Even with its variations, it remained at its heart a hashish-infused confection made with dried fruits and nuts and spices.
